We're excited to offer our first Summer Class Intensives! Taught by SJLS Theatre Department’s Artistic Director Sarah Kramer and Choreographer Cindy Powers, these workshop-style classes will provide young actors with an in-depth focus on acting, song & dance, improvisation, and how to prepare for auditions.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will have one group of 1st-5th graders and one group of 6th-9th graders, limited to 10 performers per group.
Storytellers (1st - 5th):
Storytelling has been used since the beginning of human history as a way to connect us all. In this class, students will act out folktales and fables with the use of puppetry and musical instruments, all while improving their acting skills. Students will design their own puppet, discover how sound enhances a story, and learn a brief history of how humans have told stories for hundreds of years.
Acting 101 (6th - 9th):
From auditioning to the final performance, we will give our students the tools they need to successfully develop and perform a scene. Our professional actors will teach students how to have a successful audition while working on the who, where, why and how of character development, and then how to evolve their character for their final performance.
Show Choir (1st - 5th & 6th - 9th):
Our Show Choir Intensive class is perfect for those students who love to sing and dance! Our professional choreographer and voice instructor will create a one-of-a-kind performance piece using familiar songs from classic Broadway shows, such as Oliver, The Lion King, and Kiss Me Kate. Vocal technique, beginning acting skills, and basic choreography will be developed as students "put it all together" in this fun-filled class.
Improv (1st - 5th & 6th - 9th):
An introduction for anyone to learn the fundamentals of improvisation…the basic tools, rules, and philosophy…through games, drills, and simple scenes. Students will strengthen their improv skills by working with students from all levels, prepare for an improvisation show and, of course, hilarity will ensue.
Audition Prep (1st - 5th & 6th - 9th)
We will help performers prepare for future auditions by introducing them to the audition process, how to prepare songs and monologues, how to slate, and how to make their performances come alive to impress the casting directors.
Tuition for 30 hours of instruction ($330) includes a $30 non-refundable material & website fee. If you need to cancel your registration before the due date of 7/1/20, we will refund you $300.
Early Bird Discount of $25 per performer will be extended indefinitely.
